who are they?
Evanescence is an American alternative metal band formed in 1995 in Little Rock, Arkansas by vocalist and pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. The group currently has five members, but Moody is no longer involved. The band was popular in the Little Rock area, consolidating itself in the city's music scene in the late 1990s with the EPs: Evanescence (1998) and Sound Asleep (1999), as well as the demo album Origin, released in 2000. But it was only with the 2003 album, Fallen, that the band gained international recognition and sold more than 17 million copies worldwide, receiving seven times Platinum by the RIAA in the United States. The singles "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal" remained for weeks at the top of the music charts, becoming the band's biggest hits to date. Such triumph allowed the group to tour extensively around the world in later years, and spawned the release of the live album Anywhere but Home in 2004.
