Dungeons & Dragons (commonly abbreviated as D&D or DnD) is a fantasy tabletop game originally created and designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. The game was first published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules (TSR). And it has been published by Wizards of the Coast, later a subsidiary of Hasbro, since 1997.
The game was derived from miniature wargames, with a variation of the 1971 game Chainmail serving as the initial rule system. Also, D&D's publication is commonly recognized as the beginning of modern role-playing games and the role-playing videogame industry.
To play D&D, gather friends, create characters with races and classes, and choose one person to be the Dungeon Master (DM) who narrates the story and world. Players then describe their characters' actions, and the DM determines the outcome, often by having players roll a 20-sided die (D20) and add modifiers from their character sheets to beat a target number. This process repeats as the group collaboratively explores a story
A Dungeon Master (DM) is the organizer and referee for a game of Dungeons & Dragons, responsible for creating the world, narrating the story, and controlling all non-player characters and monsters.
A player is an individual who plays the role of a Character, in a cooperative storytelling game. Players represent and role play their character's actions, speech, and thoughts.
