David Zinn

David Zinn's Art

David Zinn’s street drawings are composed entirely of chalk, charcoal and found objects, and are always improvised on location through a process known as “pareidolic anamorphosis” or “anamorphic pareidolia". As such, they wash away in the rain.

Most of his creatures appear on sidewalks in Michigan, but many have surfaced as far away as subway platforms in Manhattan, village squares in Sweden and street corners in Taiwan.

Gallery

Sluggo

Sluggo's a bright green monster with stalk curious eyes and irreverent habits. He is often seen in most of David Zinn's creations, living through the most unnusual situations.

Philomena

Philomena's a flying pig who's best friends with Sluggo, who can be seen flying off of bricks and holes. Her design was made to make impossible things come true (Pigs can fly, finally.)

The Chalk Art Handbook

Artist David Zinn, whose work has been used as inspiration for elementary and middle school art lessons, offers step-by-step guidance on how to make chalk art come to life and advice on specific techniques such as smudging, perspective, and 3-D illusions. He also encourages artists to work outside the box with details on how to best incorporate concrete specks and natural holes or cracks in the ground into their artwork.
